Let's just declare them the Champion now!

I mean, they won with only Beckett-DiceK-Schilling. Now it's Santana-Beckett-DiceK-Schilling and most of the position players return. Does anyone stand a chance?

There is a very fine line in MLB between winning and losing, and the top teams and the bottom teams. All of these athletes are so good that they can carry a team if they get hot. If you go back and look at 2007 the Red Sox were just a few games away from not even going to the playoffs. Even if they do find themselves with Santana there is no guarantee that they will even make the playoffs let alone win the world series. It's nice to pull for your team and no doubt the Red Sox will be good with or without Santana but anything can happen and that is why they play the games.

If they get Santana I wouldn't hand them the World Series (because anything can happen in the playoffs) but I would pretty much make up the Red Sox A.L. East Champions shirts in spring training...that would be a scary starting rotation and would (in my opinion) insure the Sox at least 100 wins.

Edit: I love when people say things like "if not for a colossal collapse in the ALCS by Cleveland, the Red Sox would have never been in the World Series in spite of Beckett, Dice-K and Schilling." I will turn that around on you...if not for a colossal collapse on the part of the Sox the Indians wouldn't have won 2 games in the ALCS...both teams were good...Sox were obviously better or the Indians would have been in the World Series...I don't think it was a collapse on the part of the Indians either.

I'd say so (anyone does stand a chance against the Sox + Santana). To get Santana, they are likely to have to trade valuable everyday players. This will handicap them. They may pull through that to be decent, but not unstoppable.

Here's another reason another team would have a chance - Manny and Ortiz are not getting any younger, and they both lack the work ethic to get into the physical shape that will help protect them from injuries, great and small. If one of them get injured, the house of cards comes down. Remember when Manny was out at the end of last season? If they hadn't had a ridiculous cushion, that would have killed them.

Part of the reason for that cushion was the Yankees slow start. The Yankees may be better than ever in 2008. Odds are, we'll get Santana over the Sox. Keeping our starting lineup intact (at least for the most part) is my supposition.

Getting Santana will go a long way toward mowing down the Sox, considering that pitching has been our weak point for a few years, and we evened out the season last year. Dominant though they were, the Sox did not dominate the Yankees.

That is kind of a stupid question. Using that logic, the Yankees should have buried the Indians in the playoffs since they swept the season series, then should have beaten the Red Sox 4-3for the AL title, losing to the Rockies in the WS. More reasonably, using that same logic the Braves should have won the 1996 WS. You play the game on the field, not on paper.

No you should not declare them champions now!! Baseball is 162 games long and that team must play and gel as a team....Ok the Red Sox did that last year and won the series...but anything can happen during the course of the year injuires the team ,gets into a funk, or they just get beat flat out...Look at the Yankees they look great on paper but they fall apart in the post season......It can happen to any team at any time......Plus the Sox dont want to give up Elksbery and the Twins want him...yeah i know they got that center fielder from Tampa Bay but they can use him as trade bait or keep him in the farm system...Lets wait and see what happens before you start saying Boston is the World Series Champs....Winter meetings are up and coming and there will be alot going on!!!

As a Yankee fan naturlly I hope he goes to the Yankees or if he doesnt want to play or the Twins get a better offer from some other team not in the AL East then he goes there...I dont want to see him in Boston!!! If the Yankees do manage to make a trade for him and sign him to a contract that is great....Is he the answer? Will he carry the team to a World Series Title? I dont know!!!

If the Angles dont get Cabrea from the Marlins then they will definitly put together a package to try and land Santana and that my friend will really through a wrench into the works....IF the Sox really really want him do you think they are going to give up Elksbery?? I dont he prooved himself in the Series!!
The Yankees will give up Huges or Kennedy and another player and want they have as an advantage is their deep pockets...Santana wants a 6 year deal and he wants to be paid more then Zito who is getting 126 million from the Giants.....

Good point. Included are the Olympian gold squads and
the 45 games that are really challenging and help keep
the team in T shape. Listen, I have this new cuban that
can throw cigar rings, in various colorful sparks, only one
parking slot at the California cheese table. You got to play
some new cds Tea, all the geisha are after the desserts.

Yes they should play the season. Many Pats fans(arroagant & cocky ones) say the same thing about just handing them the SB trophy & they shouldn't, because even though they are 11-0, they still have to play & win & yes the other baseball teams will stand a chance even if Red Sox get Santana, like the Indians, Yankees, who you should never count out & the some team in Detroit. No titles are just handed to a team, they have to earn them. That's why they play the game.

it is giving up too lots. to respond to your question, i assume it is a attainable commerce yet i'm no longer prepared to grant away the shop the two. Melky, confident, yet no longer the two Kennedy and Wang. My concern with any commerce now could be that the Steinbrenners and that i'm talking with regard to the kiddies, no longer the previous guy, do no longer probable have a experience for the activity. they have been to busy ingesting from that silver spoon of their mouths. Pitching is a could desire to throughout the time of the off season. without it we will not compete against the "Evil Tea celebration". If the Twins are prepared to take considerable funds then enable them to have between the pitchers and the money yet no longer the two pitchers.

if not for a colossal collapse in the ALCS by Cleveland, the Red Sox would have never been in the World Series in spite of Beckett, Dice-K and Schilling. Additionally, the Indians were 5-0 against Santana in 2007. Therefore, your question and your hypothesis is erroneously and presumptuously arrogant.

If the Red Sox get Santana, they should play basketball next season. Seriously, even things out a bit. The Red Sox can finish out the NBA season, the Celtics can play in the NFL, and Tom Brady can pitch opening day for the Patriots next April. There might be a few personel issues, like how the Celtics would fill out an NFL roster, but that's what the CBA and the Euroleague are for. Allan Houston may be washed up as a BASKETBALL player, but who knows, maybe you could put him to good use as a wideout.
