Affirmative action allows woman to have an advantage over men in many areas. One issue is that a woman dont have to lift the same weight as a man to join the police force or join the military. Also some engineering jobs give woman a better chance than men. But how about issues like child custody in which judges and lawyers admit that there is a bias against male parents in child custody. Also why isnt it applied in the criminal justice system in cases where men are oversentenced. Such as the death penalty or receiving a prison term for statutory rape whereas women who do the same like debra lafave dont get jail time.

Affirmative action is just the tip of an enormous issue. And that issue is whether gender roles should be preserved, or whether they should be removed completely. Or somewhere inbetween?

There is actually a really good argument as to why SOME typical gender roles are very important, and good for society. The child custody thing might be one of them.

It's hard to find good literature on this issue that isn't biased to the point of worthlessness though. Start with this though:
