We already are the most punitive civilized nation.
"" "The United States has 5 percent of the world's population and 25 percent of the world's incarcerated population. We rank first in the world in locking up our fellow citizens," said Ethan Nadelmann of the Drug Policy Alliance, which supports alternatives in the war on drugs.
"We now imprison more people for drug law violations than all of western Europe, with a much larger population, incarcerates for all offences."
Ryan King, a policy analyst at The Sentencing Project, a group advocating sentencing reform, said the United States has a more punitive criminal justice system than other countries.
MORE PEOPLE TO PRISON
"We send more people to prison, for more different offences, for longer periods of time than anybody else," he said.
Drug offenders account for about 2 million of the 7 million in prison, on probation or parole, King said, adding that other countries often stress treatment instead of incarceration.""

You can't be serious... adultery is a moral issue not a crime, the muslims are extremists because of the fact that government and religion are one in the same. They persecute people and many live in fear.
America doesn't need to go back to the dark ages.

No.
If your only factor for deciding whether you like a society or not is based on whether or not crimes are being committed, maybe.
However, Western societies generally value freedom of thought and expression over absolute safety.
Also consider that if you are a woman, violent crimes (by western society's definition) are frequently committed against you with no redress.
Consider that the majority of people in Western society do not experience violent crime - do you think THEY would appreciate losing their freedom of speech, the freedom to congregate, etc, because of problems elsewhere?
It is easy to overreact to crime. The results are usually worse (in the long run) than the original crime was.
In short: No.

Adultery is not a crime in the US.
And we don't have a serious problem with crime because overall our people live in much better economical conditions and thus have a lot fewer motivations to commit crimes.
But hey if the US Consitution is not good enought for you, you can always try Sudanese.

usa could be extra advantageous if it became into extra advantageous knowledgeable. then we does no longer be at the back of pretty much each and every us of a in math and and technology.and as a christian i like the separation of church and state. faith is significant yet once you're a flesh presser you could desire to be nerve-racking approximately china taking over and the country defaulting on loans instead of your co worker no longer believing in God.

america would be better if gov't officials did what their jobs are instead of what they feel they should do..mediocre civil servants give the impression that everyone has the same entitlement they do...
like State of Maryland vehicles flying by at 90mph..right by a cop that has somebody pulled at 15 mph less..

We're pretty tough here in Texas;only spike in crime lately was tied to Katrina evacuees.
Numbers seem to confirm that a tough stance on criminal behavior does work.

How do you think we're doing compared to those countries so far? In my opinion we're kicking their butt by every economic, political and quality of life measure so I think we're good with what we've got.
