Probably Johnson (the first one) and Reagan.

Johnson - after the Civil War, many wanted to execute the former leaders of the Confederacy and punish all of the Confederate states heavily. Johnson, following the policy that Lincoln started, instead went for a more lenient approach. He suffered for his mercy, being brought up for impeachment.

Reagan - he knew what had to be done to win the Cold War and did it, no hesitation. He did things for the economy that no one can deny. He was a President that both sides of the proverbial aisle respected.

Andrew Jackson - in spite of a rather sordid administration was every man's president and probably the last of the real good old boys to be elected - after that the smoke filled room became the king maker...

I appreciate Lincoln for keeping the Union in tact and he pushed the limits of presidential power. Something I don't believe a president has been able to do since.

I will have to say my favorite is John Quincy Adams. He was a man of integrity and honesty. He had a hard time with the presidency, but he was a man of his word and understood that America CANNOT fight for other countries independence. We should have listened to John. Even about two hundred years later, we should have listened.

You can't top George Washington. Without him, there wouldn't be a nation today. He's truly the indispensable man.

And then there's Lincoln - one of the most interesting and inspiring figures in all of American history.

During my lifetime....Ronald Reagan.

Lincoln. A humble man who most expected very little of, he brought the country through one of its greatest crises and became almost universally honored and revered in the process. Probably our most talented, and certainly our most eloquent president.
