Depends on your overhead. Selling only on the Internet or your own boutique? Are you going to have your line carried by company and made by a company? Are you going to do all the work yourself? Hand stitch everything or sewing machine? My GF is going through this right now. The median for a fashion designer is $40k - $55k a year. However you can be on the bottom end of that at zero or the top end at 1 mil. Just a lot of things you need to consider.

Usually, very little - even successful lines take longer than that to really get established. Your question is impossible to answer without a lot more info - and even knowing the details of what your plans are, any estimate would just be a guess since in addition to quality, there is so much luck involved in whether your line catches on.
