Lets say you meet a girl on a dating site, and she says shes 18 or 20 years old. Lets say if the girl is really only 16 or 17, can you be arrested and prosecuted just for meeting her. Can dateline have a decoy and say she is 23, but really only be 16 years old, then bust you. If I did meet a girl online, I would first ask her for her ID when we first met, just to make sure she was of legal age.

Meeting people is always legal, regardless of their age.

If you engage in sexual conversation with a minor online you can be prosecuted for corrupting the morals of a child if you knew, believed, or could reasonably have been expected to know, that she was a minor.

If you meet a minor below your States age of consent in the real world and have sex with her then it's a crime even if she told you she was an adult - and even if she showed you a fake ID. Statutory rape, or it's equivalents, are "crimes of strict liability" which means that knowledge or intent are not elements of the crime.

Finally, if you arrange for a girl who is under 18, but over the age of consent in both her State and yours, to cross a State line to have sex with you, or if you cross a State line to have sex with her, you have committed a Federal crime. If you travel to a foreign country to have sex with a person under 18 - even if she is of legal age in that country - you have also committed a Federal crime.

Well do her parents know that she's been talking to him? All I can say is when I was 14 the same thing kidna happened to me with 2 guys, we arranged to meet and they both didnt turn up,looking back now I'm glad they didnt because you never know exactly who the other person is. I know I've lied to people on the internet about who I am and the fact is, is that everyone on the internet lies, you never know he may after all be a 18 year old guy but if they do have sex it's also illegal, she technically cannot give consent to have sex until she is 16 so if it does happen he can and most likely will be sent to jail for a undefined period of time for sex with a minor. Just tell your friend you don't support her and if your mother isnt willing to take her to the airport then I doubt anyone else will. Hope everything goes ok

Without playing games, don’t be available 100% of the time or let your life be an open book. A man that comes on too strong or doesn’t have outside interests will scare a woman away just as much as it would if the circumstances were reversed. Read here https://tr.im/NmE5b

Women don’t want to feel as though they are completely responsible for your happiness and that is what it feels like when the other person has no outside interests. Men who are overeager or jump when the woman says jump are the ones who are more likely to end up in the friend zone. This doesn’t mean that you should play the game of not calling for a few days; it means that you should set healthy boundaries until you both naturally find a spot for the other in your lives.

ANY LAWYER COULD GET ANY CASE WHERE THE PERSON LIED AND YOU WENT TO MEET HER DISMISSED
HOWEVER
IF YOU HAVE SEX WITH AN UNDERAGE PERSON WHETHER THEY CLAIM TO BE OF AGE OR NOT IT IS YOUR OBLIGATION TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT LYING. EVEN IF THEY LIED, THE PERSON WOULD BE GUILTY OF STATUTORY RAPE--as a minor is not responsible and therefore their word is not proof of age.

sry bout all the caps (too lazy to go back now)

No. The whole Dateline thing is cops saying in plain English that they are an underage girl. There is no lying done about age. The older men have made sexual advances via the internet towards girls that they know are underage. If you meet someone on line that states they are an adult, and you go and meet them, only to find out that they are underage, then you have done nothing wrong as long as you end it there. You will get in trouble(and are troubled) if you meet a girl that is known to you to be underage, and you have made some sort of sexual advance either physically or verbally.

If you have been lied to and can prove it, you are innocent of wrongdoing. If you meet a 16 year old who said she was 18 and you find out she's 16, all you have to do is walk away as soon as you learn the truth. Dateline doesn't have 16 year olds pretend to be 18, they have 24 year olds pretend to be 13. They're only tricking men who want little girls or boys, not causing someone to make an honest mistake.

If it is a sting then (the cop doing the sting) would most probably state she was the age below consent. If you are in a dating room and a female tells you that she is above legal age, COPY AND PRINT THE MESSAGE. Proof of HER deception. Although I would never have sex or meet her under the precept of having sex until she provided an id proving her real age. You can only be arrested for solicitation IF you actually knew she was under age.
