x + 1/3 - 1/2 = 3x - 3/6

Multiply everything by 6 to remove fractions:
6x + 2 - 3 = 18x - 3

Subtract 6x from both sides:
-1 = 12x - 3

Add 3 to both sides:
2 = 12x

Divide both sides by 12:
2/12 = x

Reduce:
x = 1/6

As a double-check, plug in the value of x back into the equation:

Left side:
1/6 + 1/3 - 1/2
= 1/6 + 2/6 - 3/6
= 3/6 - 3/6
= 0

Right side:
3(1/6) - 3/6
= 3/6 - 3/6
= 0

Since the sides balance that tells us that the answer is correct:
x = 1/6

To check your answer just substitute your answer for x into the equation.

2 + 1/3 -1/2 = 3(2)-3/6

change all denominators to 6 and you get
2+2/6-3/6 =3(2)-3/6
2-1/6=6-3/6
so you can see this will not be right

so go back and start over but keeping all denominators in 6's you get
x+ 2/6-3/6=3x-3/6
x-1/6=3x-3/6
add 3/6 to each side and you get
x+2/6=3x
substract x from both sides and you get
2/6=2x
divide each by 2 and you get 1/6=x

To check again
1/6+2/6-3/6 which equals 0
and 3(1/6)-3/6 also equals 0 so your answer should be
x=1/6

x+1/3 - 1/2 = 3x - 3/6

solution:

combined like terms,

1/3 - 1/2 + 3/6 = 3x - x

lcd = 6

(2 - 3 + 3) / 6 = 2x

2 / 6 = 2x

cross multiply,

2 = 12 x

1 / 6 = x is the answer

No, if you put 2 in to both formulas you get two different answers. Here is a way to work it:

x+1/3-1/2 = 3x-3/6

x-1/6 = 3x-3/6

x=3x-1/3

-2x = -1/3

-x = -1/6

x=1/6

(1/6)+1/3-1/2 = 3(1/6)-3/6

Both sides are equal to zero. Hope this helps...

x+1/3-1/2=3x-3/6

multiply everything by 6...to get rid of the fractions

6x+2-3=18x-3

now...combine like terms on each side

6x-1=18x-3
2=12x
x=2/12=1/6

you have, x+1/3-1/2=3x-3/6 (multiply throughout by 2)

x+1/3-1=3x-3/3

x+1/2=3x-3/3 (multiply throughout by 6)

3(x+1)=2(3x-3)

3x+3=6x-6 (subtract 3x+3 on both sides)

3x-9=0 (divide throughout by 3)

x-3=0 thus x=3

x+1/3-1/2=3x-3/6

multiply throught with 6
6x+2-3=18x-3
6x-1=18x-3
-1+3=18x-6x
2=12x
2/12=x
1/6=x
