A couple of months ago I decided to try my hand at pro gaming, since i'm 14 and have a job, I thought I should start early. I'm own online at PC games, and I'm getting a PS3 next month. So, how do I get my foot in the door? should I join something like MLG first or what? And does anyone know about any upcoming PS3 tourneys in the Vancouver area? And how do I explain this to my perants? They're not exactly too happy about all the games I play. THX

I wouldn't stress the PS3 yet if you want to get in to competetive gaming. Really work on some of the gold standards of competetive gaming like Unreal Tournament, Starcraft, and even Halo. Try to keep your PC up to date along with finding things like a mouse and keyboard that are really comfortable and responsive for you. Once you get to a certain level of gaming you start to go up against people that are not only good at the game in question, but also have their system and environment specifically tuned for specific games.

Personally I don't think it's worth it. The really hardcore players play one game like it's a job, sometimes from sunrise to sunset. I think you should really be asking yourself if that's something you're interested in.

yah, sorry to tell you this but unless you are willing to fully dedicate yourself 100% to pro gaming, that dream should die now. When I was 14 I first heard of MLG and thought, "Hey I'm crazy good at Halo, this should be easy money...^-^" ehh, wrong. Believe me it's almost impossible to get up into the ranks of the established pro circuit. If you notice, MOST of the true PROS(aka top 16, the only ones who make money) are over 18yrs old. They fully dedicate themselves to gaming becouse it is their job. The spend all day, everyday(not literally of course) playing and practicing. I've been to 3 MLG events in Chicago, the last 2yrs as a spectator only. I've seen the event grow from just a few hundred people, to thousands!!! People just seem to be getting better and better and there is more compitition then ever b4. Do you really want to spend hard earned money to lose in the qualifiers??

Now, MLG doesnt do PC or PS3 games last time I checked. But you could possibly be interested in the World Gaming League. They do alot of games, console and PC, the most prominent would be CounterStrike, StarCraft, and HALO. That is where the real money is( 7 digit $$$$) but I have no idea if Canada has a team. So look into that if possible although thats a much crazyier dream that an MLG career considering all the various tourneys you have to win just to get to tryouts.

But, If your like me, absolutely insane and throws reason to the wind constantly, the best thing is to try and find a sponser. It doesnt have to be anyone big like RedBull or BestBuy like the pros have, maybe just a local store or pizza place would do it if you wore there logos and such on t-shirts to the tourney. I actually know a few people who have done this successfully, considering the FFA open for MLG is $10 and the team is $50 per person.

Explaing to parents wouldnt be the best thing to do, unless you have an airtight game-plan and are realitivly confident of your skills. Look at it this way, what would you say if your 14yr old came up to you and said "Mom/Dad, I wanna become a professinal gamer. All I have to do is drop out school, play games all day, and go to tournaments all over the country"........ lol, I dont think you'd use those words but you get what I'm saying.

If your really interested in pro gaming though you can get your foot in the door by doing a few things:
1. Go to various professional gaming tournys as a spectator. See first hand what pro gaming intales and ask around, people are usually very helpful. The closest MLG tourney to Vancouver would proly be NY.
2.Play in local tournements in your area and when you are winning consistantly you'll know your ready to try your luck nationally or professionly.
3. Join a forum like mlgpro.com, they have whole sections dedicated to anwsering questions for the upandcoming gamer.

Bottom line, good luck kind sir!
Hope things work out!!

You need to enter as many tournaments wherever you can, as often as possible, and win!

MLG isnt an easy thing to get started in, they only want people that will help them promote the sport. And the only ones who do that are that are known when the words "video games" and mentioned.

Not saying it isn't possible, its just going to take a lot of work that frankly a lot of people don't have.

welll your education is important.. so yer i can understand

and "pro gaming" isn't the best paid job..

you need to play a game, get into a decent clan.. then get spotted by even better clans... who might ask you to join..

It takes a lot of time to be in a clan also.
