I am afraid you can only try to avoid your mother. Wash your hands freiquently and try not to touch things like the kitchen counter or other bathroom surfaces. DO not share cups or utensils or blankets or towels. You can ask your doctor what else would help, but if you are sick beyond a certain point, they cannot do anything but send you home, They are low supposed to do procedures that could harm you or make you less able to fight a cold or spread a cold around the operating team and other patients at the hospital. They are not allowed to work sick and there are a lot of people waiting for surgery. The re-schedule is often not too far out, fortunately. If it seems to be bacterial, your surgeon might be able to put you on some antibiotics early, to control your symptoms and reduce the chance of contagion at the date of the surgery - you could ask. Good Luck.

I would suggest trying to stay away from your mother as to not breath the same air. Depending on what kind of winter sickness you have, here are some at home remedies:

Breath in lots of warm steam (boil a pot of water, run a sick full and put a towel around you, take a long hot bath or shower)

Drink herbal teas

Buy some Mucinex or off brand med with guaifenesin and something with a decongestant

Boost your immune system with Orange juice and a multi-vitamin

Try to keep at a normal temperature

Call the surgery center and ask them for advice. Maybe they could even reschedule.

The only other thing you can do at this point is limit exposure - wash your hands frequently, maybe ask your mom to wear a surgical mask if she is coughing or sneezing, or wear a mask yourself when you are at home. The Zicam suggestion is also a good one. Not much more you can do.

Same thing happened to me before a surgery. I got a cold and they don't want you sick when they put you under, can cause complications. Just get your rest and take your medicine. You can easily kick it before the surgery.
Good luck
p.s. I still had sniffles when I went in and just didn't say anything about it, I was willing to take the risk.

Pray that you stay healthy, and drink a lot of tea. Wash your hands a lot. Stay away from anyone who might be sick.
