one pair of nice merino wool socks from smart wool would be fine. I was shopping with my sister in law for new ski boots last year and she told the person selling the boots that she usually wears two or three pairs because she's always cold. he told her that it would be better if she bought merino wool and only wore one layer. So she tried it out in rather chilly 0 degree weather and he was right.

the more layers you wear, the more you will sweat and the colder your feet will be.

Two. But throw them in the dryer first and get them hot!
