Medical prodecures, just in case i get hurt? For example, i could learn how to sew up a bad cut in case i get careless with my kitchen knives, ro learn how to set a cast in case i break my arm somehow.

Maybe this will force doctors to stop charging outrageous exhorbitant prices for basic procedures, because they'll get competition from their own potential patients. And of course, more importantly, if they charged fair prices, more people could afford health insurance :)

Jessica, be nice.

If you can change your oil in your back yard at the horror and dismay of your mechanic, why can't i put a few sootchers in my finger when my paring knife slipped?

Occasionally, you hear about people who tried to set their own broken limbs, and all the stories end badly. Doctors, pharmacies, hospitals, etc have to charge high prices to subsidize for the medicare/medicade patients. Medicare/medicade patient pay, on average, less than half of cash price. For pharmacies, the material cost, the medications, is just high to begin with.

The answer is no. It is called practicing without a license anyway. Chances are you would get some sort of weird necrotizing fascitis or MRSA and die or lose an arm.

The reason medical costs are so high is too pay for 2 things. Indigent care and have you looked at the price of medical equipment and supplies? The same TV you buy at Wal-mart for 1000 dollars costs a hospital 16,000.00 and then you have to buy the service plan for 3000.00 more per year, just because it is medical.

Now getting on Indidgent care. You know who pays for that? Your government and the hospital. The hospital EATS most of an indidgent bill which is not paid. A hospital may not refuse service in an ER. If they do they can be sued. So you have to treat flea bites, runny noses, and common colds. You say this is not so bad? Average trivial ER bill runs 400 dollars. That is a hit to the government, you, me, and the hospital.
