I think slavery will always be wrong where did any one get the idea that it was okay to own another person. I believe slavery will always be looked back on as a time to be ashamed of.I don't think any one has slaves now. I do think lots of people live under anothers control in unhappy marriages.for example their are women who keep going back to abusive men. They say they get used to the abuse, how is that possible.

I know this is not going to be popular, but it needs to be said.
People really have an incorrect view of slavery, in what it was. How can people judge something correctly if they don't know the correct facts?
Slavery was not just a racial thing. It started among those of the same race. The racial aspect of it was wrong, there are no races better than others, but that is not what makes up slavery.
Yet, all I see are people talking about how terrible that racism was. Slavery and racism only became synonymous in the western world and only at the end of slavery in the western world.
There were slaves that remained so voluntarily. There were slaves that defended their master's property with their lives during the Civil War in the US.

I believe the past with slavery was really bad. The slaves got whipped and treated so unfairly. For present, I don't think there is that much slavery but I believe its worse than in the past. There are more weapons and tools that can be used to hurt the slave rather than just a whip.

Please note: this is not in support of slavery. It is merely the reporting of a form of slavery that most people don't know much about, to provide some contrast to the slave trade of the 18th and 19th centuries.
A Norse (Viking) slave (thrall if male, ambatt if female) was often better off than his/her free counterparts. Their owners were responsible for feeding, clothing, housing and protecting them, and they were usually well-treated: when something is worth a minimum of two cows, you take care of it. Also, slaves were often allowed to make and sell small items, and save up the profits until they could buy their freedom.
A karl or bondi was free, but he was also free to starve and to pay taxes, and could be conscripted into the levy in times of need. When times were hard, a freeman could 'put his head in his lord's hands' - he would sell himself and his family into slavery, because it would result in a better quality of life!

First of all, it is a fact that there are more slaves in the world today then there were 250 years ago. There are slaves in the US that are bought in other countries and then brought in illegally to be maids and servants and sex slaves. That being said, I believe that slavery is wrong because it takes away natural human rights to live as they choose.

Slavery is as old as human history and is still acceptable in many societies and cultures today. Do you abhor slavery enough to condemn it in other countries?
It's way too easy just to say something is bad.

I don't think you'll get many responses approving of slavery. Aside from those who own slaves, most people think it's an abomination.

i think slavery in the past was one of history's natural disasters. because they not only mistreated the "different" people, but they also exploited what could've been done. People and other cultutes could've had a peacful time in life without losing their pride and stuff.
