I give my grandchildren nicknames when they are babies and use it for the rest of their lives. My husband is Sweetheart. My children have nicknames too. They would not make sense to anybody but me.

Yes I do have a special name for my Son. He was born 2 months early and only weighed 4lbs. He was lethargic, never a sound, and, had no desire to eat. I took him home after 4 days in the hospital, he had lost half a pound. They all thought I was crazy, my thoughts were, he would die at home in my arms not in a cold hospital. My tiny little guy could not clear his air way on his own until he was 3 months old, everything that went down came back out, he had to have assistance or die. I knew if I could keep food down for a certain amount of time he would keep nutrients and hopefully thrive. So, it was a endless process. He slept on my bare chest, I never really slept. I would hum to him... I will never forget the day he hummed back! He hadn't even cried yet... He tried so hard to hum just a little... God it was a miracle! So yes, my little son (and I generally only call him this when we are alone) is known to me as Hummer!!!

I call my husband "Chia" because he's a pretty hairy guy. Doesn't matter how often he shaves, he always looks like he's got that 5:00 shadow going on.
I sometimes call my grand daughter 'stink bomb' for obvious reasons. She's 1 and since she's been eating regular food, she's EARNED that nickname.

My husband and I called each other Dear. My oldest son calls me Mommie Dearest as a joke, of course. I called my 3 sons Honey. They didn't seem to mind.

I call my oldest daughter "Bear", short for Amanda Panda Bear. We've stopped using another nickname because it wasn't very kind....Bertha-because she inheritied a bubble-bum.

My youngest daughter's pet name is Kay-Kay; or Kayce (K C) a play on her name Acacia.

Sometimes I call my husband Davey....a leftover from his baseball/competitive softball playing days. Once in awhile I'll drop a "hello handsome", "my love", or "honey" just to see if he'll still blush. He still calls me "babe". I think it's cool that our eyesight gets fuzzier as our bodies begin to droop with age...;)

I don't have kids, but I call both of my nieces the same thing. The Nuclear Fart Girls. They can clear the Super Bowl, either of them.
