tried the pill route over and over. i prefer to gut it out. all the pills just fix one thing and cause something else, it seems. i believe i have tried them all. i say some are worse than others. the antidepressents tend to pick you up a bit for a few days. longer sometimes. others say different. i find it is impossible to live on a fixed dose. there is no provision for a sliding scale. an endless frustrating struggle.

always like a yo you for me. prozac, etc. etc. even tried antipsychotics like lamictal and others. just never was satisfied with the accompanying side effect. always unsure and tend to go from less depressed to irritable and snappy. too much, too little. a very delicate balancing act. i just try to accept depression and hope is doesn't get worse and become anxiety or panic attacks. you can function with depression. anyway, i can. it lifts momentarily from time to time all on its own. try to enjoy and treasure those moments. people found ways to cope centuries ago and lived and raised their children. they found coping mechanisms or else i wouldn't have been born. there just might be a damn good reason behind rather than purely chemistry. maybe you are under the weight of a bit of bad luck or, say, a situation in marriage or at work. of course that is depressing. when no solution is apparent then you must cope for as long as it takes to come up with a doable solution to get out from under the burder. pills and liquor are the old way not the new way.

i work to control my lifestyle and reduce stress and interactions with the busy world. i suggest you do the same. people have dealt with depression forever. king tut might have had depression and coped by racing chariots. whatever. nothing new in depression. it will never, never be like when you were a kid and did not know about depression.

I've had depression myself before so I know what it's like. If you find you can't sleep don't toss and turn, get up and do something - read, watch telly, go on-line. Make sure you eat properly, as it's only too easy to neglect yourself if you're feeling depressed and as others have said, go and talk to your GP. Lastly, take a look at the links below and see if you can identify with the symptoms. Best of luck.

Talk to Mind or Rethink, before you speak to your doctor as your G.P. will always be pushed for time. Everybody suffers from depression at some point in their life so try not to be embarassed about it.

Here is some helpful information from the ever reliable BBC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/mental_health/disorders_depression.shtml

You can speak to a nurse confidentially if you don't wish to approach you doctor straight away. Contact NHS direct on 0845 4647 (24 hrs)

Think fo it this way, you life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets and sadness, someone out ther eloves you, and they would hate to see you like this, so many people care for you. Don't ever spend 60 seconds upset, that;s one minute of happieness you will NEVER get back, talk to somone, anyone, Hell, if you want, I am in a pysch class, you can email me, and talk. Talk to a doctor, or anyone..but you may just be stressed, so just try and relax

Its is ridiculous to suggest not going to the doctor, depression is a medical condition, caused by a drop of serotonin in the brain.it is not feeling blue or sorry for yourself.
Finding a good doctor is very important, and cognitive therapy is also very helpful.

Talk to your doctor, friends or family, or logically think about what is getting you down and try to sort out your problems one step at a time..

You will make yourself stronger if you face it on your own!

get some exercise (even if it's just going for a long walk) and start eating right. Also try talking to someone close to you and see if all this helps. If it doesn't then go to your doctor.
