We need more information. How are the two angles related? Do the two angles have the same measure? (Are they congruent angles?) Do the two angles make a straight line (supplementary), or a 90 degree angle (complementary)?

We can't solve this unless we have more info.

***************
M<1 + M<2 = 180
(5x + 7) + (7x + 17) = 180
(5x + 7x) + (7 + 17) = 180
12x + 24 = 180
12x + 24 - 24 = 180 - 24
12x = 156
12x / 12 = 156 / 12
x = 13

M<1 + M<2 = 180
5x + 7 + 7x + 17 = 180
12x + 24 = 180
12x = 156
x = 13

We need to know the sum of the two angles, or a third angle of the triangle, or at least some more information to solve this. Is there a diagram?

are these angles supplementary or complementary?

if they are supplementary add together and set equal to 180

if they are complementary add together and set equal to 90
