Because Whitney sang it as the theme song for that horrible movie The Bodyguard.

Dolly Parton is a classy lady. She not only gave her permission for Whitney to sing the song, but she gave her high accolades on her rendition of it.

Whitney Houston's version was more popular with the whole movie The Bodyguard and endless radio play. but don't feel sorry for Dolly Parton she still gets the royalties, she still gets paid for that song.

Of course...

Whitney Houston is known for having such a powerful voice.
She sang it very very well and her rendition of the song is not just a song, it could also be used on a prom's sweet dance.

1. Where do broken hearts go
2. All at once
3. Greatest Love of All
4. Didn't we almost have it all
5. I will always love you

Above were just 5 of my favourite WH songs.

Well chances are because not that many peoeple have heard dolly's version of it, and seein as how it was the theme song for the movie "The Bodyguard" everyone probably thinks she came up with it.

Rather that or they prefer whitney's version over dolly's

Because Whitney Houston is one of the best vocalists of our time. Dolly's great... but she is hardly the vocal singer that Whitney Houston was. It is like "Twist and Shout" by the Beatles. They did not write it nor perform it first, but whose version does everyone remember? Ultimately it does not matter who did it first. It matters who did it best.

It is because of the way her voice carried on that song. Not many remakes sound as good as the original or better for that matter. If you listened to it, I'm sure you'd agree.
