My husband will be missing our first wedding anniversary because he'll be in Iraq. How can I send a piece of our wedding cake and ensure that it will get there and still be good to eat?

Outkast is right about the dry ice and a jet. However keep in mind once it reaches the largest base in Iraq it is up to the military to deliver it. You have no idea how long it will sit there. It depends on where he's at. If he's not right near the base it could take weeks before he ever sees the package. Keep in mind that when they load vehicles or aircraft equipment and troops take priority over mail. I personally would not ship it. I know it's hard not having him there for such as special occasion. My husband was away for ours too. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

for now.. send him a picture of you in a nightie or very nice outfit holding the cake. let him know that you're gonna freeze some of the cake for the both of you when he returns. and you can also have champagne. that would make him happy. a picture of you on your special day. he can keep it forever, and it'll be a loving memory when you guys get older.

Take a picture of the piece of cake and kiss it
with an imprint and he will enjoy the kiss more
than the piece of cake.

You could vacuum pack it, freeze it, then try to ship. it might be a bag full of mush, but it would arrive. Being exposed to air is what shortens the life of it.
