It is governed by state, but across the board on a Federal level, which the state usually adopts, anything over 8 hours, you are entitled to one 1/2 hour and two fifteen minutes breaks.

usually its one 30 min break and 2 15 min breaks but some jobs don't allow for it say if u work at a store and are the only clerk. u cannot close the store for 30 minutes.
