It's a tall order indeed to seek one model that can show detail in the Milky Way galaxy and in the solar system: Like asking for a detailed model of planet Earth that includes an object the size of your hand.

Computer models do it best, and there are several on the market: The most immediately available for you would be Celestia, a free download at http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ .

My favourite is Starry Night Pro http://www.starrynightstore.com/stniso.html .

Hi. Try this site, but the Solar system is tiny at this scale. http://www.answers.com/Milky+Way+galaxy?cat=technology&gwp=1
Search for "Powers of 10". It will astound you.
