The Palace Station is a bit away from the other casinos, but not too far. It's across the I-15 freeway from the northern part of The Strip.
Unlike some others who have posted answers, I advise against a rental car except for trips to other parts of the valley besides The Strip. I formerly lived in Las Vegas and took visitors to The Strip. Traffic can be horrible at times and you will waste a lot of time walking to parking garages, driving your car a few blocks, and looking for another parking garage. Use a taxi or the hotel shuttle to get to The Strip. Then, you can walk or, for longer distances, use the trolley that runs up and down Las Vegas Blvd. You can get information about the trolley at www.striptrolley.com.
Have fun!

I've stayed there a few times and never had a bad stay. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The tower rooms, which I recommend upgrading to if you can, are even better and offer a view too. The buffet is good and gambling too. The property is located on Sahara Ave. about 1 mile from the Stratosphere casino/hotel at the bottom of the strip. A cab is probably a better bet to go there. Rent a car is the best bet. Shuttles are UNRELIABLE. From there you have access to downtown, Fremont St. for "Old Las Vegas" and the Fremont St. Experience- not to be missed. Also, you have a nice, LONG, ride up the strip, usually, where you can view the all the casinos, or see the free outdoor shows, or even pull into one and walk through and out onto the strip and just casually walk around. There's MUCH to see and do, so have fun and good luck. Check out the websites below too.

Palace Station is a really nice place. I have stayed there many times and loved it. They have an airport shuttle that is free and a strip shuttle. It too is free. The strip shuttle alternates drop off and pick up at two locations on the strip. The first is the Tropicana and the second is the Fashion Show Mall. That give you two great locations to begin any of your strip adventures. Go to www.palacestation.com and on the main page on the left hand side you will find a link for shuttle to the strip and airport. Click on here and it will show you the schedule. Make sure you pick up a schedule on the shuttle because there are certain times it does not run. Hey ... it's free ... pretty good deal.

theres a map of the palace station shuttle. you can catch the deuce bus right at fashion show mall... the duece costs 2 dollars a ride, or 5 bucks for a 24 hour pass (thats what i get) and it runs all along las vegas blvd, and to downtown.
cabs can get pretty pricey, and i'm not old enough to rent a car yet ;) but who wants to drive in vegas anyway!
vegas is my favorite place ever, you're gonna have so much fun!! :)
