Wikipedia, unfortunately, sometimes contains erroneous listings. I would follow the links provided if you want a more accurate account of the true ratio. Good luck.

It's true. I asked my eye doctor one time because I read the same thing. He said between 2% and 5% of the world's population has green eyes, making them the rarest color. The genes for green are rare, that's why.

It also says....Green eyes are the product of moderate amounts of melanin. They are most often found among people of North and Eastern European descent, and to a slightly lesser extent, in Southern Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central and South Asia.[1][2][3][4].Green eyes are the rarest eye color; only 1-2% of human population possesses this trait. Hungary is the country with the highest percentage of green eyed people, about 20%.[citation needed].
In Iceland 88% of the population have green or blue eyes.[5]
How has anyone counted the population and come up with this statistic? Wikipedia is only as good as the people who contribute to it, so if you know better then get editing!

I think that makes sense when you take it in context. I don't know many people from India or Japan who have green eyes; I believe the majority of them are brown. There probably aren't a lot of green or blue eyed people in African countries. Those countries make up a whole lot more of the world's population than the United States; thus, brown is going to be predominant.
The source should be cited; see if it's reputable and go from there. Of course, you can't believe everything you read, particularly on the Internet.

I don't see how one person having green eyes means it isn't rare
If 1-2% of the world's population has green eyes, that's between 60 and 120 million people. When you talk about rare, we're talking about the poplation as a whole.
It could be true that evernone in the uk has green eyes and no-one else does. Green eyes would be common in the UK but rare worldwide.

wiki is not always correct as anyone can add anything, which will stay up until it is checked and presumably removed. Green eyes are fairly unusual I have them and so does my Mum. 1-2% of the population I'm not sure. One thing i am pretty sure of is that globally brown are the most common.

Well, between brown, blue and green, the majority of the world has either brown( most frequent), and blue.
So it leaves the green out as the last common. But its not because its extremely rare and you dont see it at all, its just a bigger minority

Well it seems logical, since most of the world's population lives in SE Asia and Africa, and those areas people with dark eyes predominate.
