I was thinking about this as I was looking through my CD collection. There are a lot of artists that I used to love, love, LOVE "back in the day" (for whatever reason), and while I still look fondly on their work (it'll always hold that place in my heart), for the most part, I've kind of outgrown them.

This may sound blasphemous to some, but for me, one of those artists is the Sex Pistols. *ducks flying tomatoes* Are they great? Yes. Brilliant? Absolutely! Do I still like them? Of course!

But as I've gotten older and a little more mellow (but only just a little!) I've found that "God Save The Queen" is more a great tune than an anthem anymore.

So who are your favorite "outgrown" artists?

No judgement...this is a happy place.

Who passed out those thumbs down?? This is a **HAPPY** place.

Dave: Rush was one of my first concerts ever. Amazing how much I've changed when I look back.

Rckets: What we do for you, so good for you....It's All Good! Thank you. After jmike's question, I thought I was doomed to that Heights song.

Master C - Great minds... :)

Hoevo & Sookie - GREAT call on RATM. They are motivational now, when I'm cleaning - they keep me moving. :)

Prof: I was never really a doors fan. Maybe I should duck more tomatoes, but they never did it for me.

Blunt: I know this is a happy place, but you thrifted the Beasties? Your punishment is to download and listen to No Sleep Til Brooklyn & So Whatcha Want. =)

Bubbles - you're a girl after my own heart! I love 80s music. :)

Good grief, you touched a very a soft spot. Reason being is because I feel guilty to purge my beloved cd collection ( I won't mention my LP collection because I wanna believe that I'm still a spring chicken.)

With that said.... I feel extremely guilty about putting my nose up to some of my favorite band Cd's that have been neglected and not played for a very long time. Yes, I've played the very commercial Marroon 5 instead of Queen... please people, forgive me an do not pass judgement as I'm guilty as charged.

I must confess that The Smiths seem a bit boring to me now, but please do not throw stones at me, ,... it's enough shame for me to admit that I have not played The Smiths in well over 10 years. Beastie Boys, oh pioneers of a whole generation... I put their anniversary collection in the Thrift Shop some moons ago... I know, I know... shame on me.

OMG.. I can't believe that I've admited to such dealy sins.... I feel dirty now... I want my mommy.

Very cool question Sylvia.

I'm having trouble, and I'm thinking that this isn't the best answer, if I get a better one I'll chime in later, but The Dandy Warhols just aren't the same for me now. That The Dandy Warhols Come Down record hit me at the perfect time in my life, and I kind of stopped being interested after their third record, but I listen to them now and it's still good but doesn't have the same luster to it.

I'll be back, that was a pretty weak answer.

You know. I think I've got it. The friggin Doors. I still can acknowledge that I was really into them and there are a couple songs that still hold quite a bit of merrit for me, but I've kind of come to the conclusion that Jim Morrison was just too pretentious (and kind of a douche-bag (sorry it's just my opinion)). I just can't take them seriously anymore.

Bring on the hate. It's ok.

I don't know that I've really outgrown any artist. I've turned away from a few because of over-exposure, but I don't feel like I've outgrown them. Maybe some of that has to do with the fact that I still actively seek out new albums from all of the same artists listened to in middle and high school.

LOL- this was actually a funny joke fight with my husband....
I have NOT out grown any of them... perhaps they just remind me of simpler times or my high school years which I loved.

I still listen to
Vanilla Ice
Debbie Gibson
Tiffany
Samtha Fox
Vixen
Lenny B- I touch myself!!
Joan Jett and the Black Hearts
Bon Jovi
Great White

My husband HATES it and they are all LPs, he just found out that I have been buying the remixes for my ipod. He was trying not to laugh but he said it's sad when someone buys a
Vanilla Ice remix!

And I made them play Vanilla Ice at my wedding- everyone Laughed and sang along- it was funny 12 to 65 years old knew the words!!

I'm in the same boat as you in the fact that a lot of of the punk I listened to more in my youth no longer applies. I have house payments, car payments, a family to take care of.......no longer am I interested in "taking on the man" but rather helping my stepson to be the best person that he can and taking care of my wife who has health problems. In other words, my priorities have changed over time from those that I thought would make an impact to those that I know will make an impact to those I love.

The Sex Pistols fit well into that category as do other anti-establishment bands such as Rage Against The Machine. Don't get me wrong, I truly enjoy the music and am thrilled for what they bring to the table but I find them to no longer be relevant to my lifestyle.

Edit: Marquis, I'm not willing to get off The Wiggles bandwagon just yet...

Blessid Union of Souls, Amy Grant, Boyz II Men, New Kids on the block to add a few to the already long list that's been added. I've got so many more..

that happened to me years ago when I was a kid..
I was ten and one of my favorite bands were Sweet and Abba. Than came the intellectual revolution in me, through an older friend and those were substituted with Pink Floyd and the rest of them.
But I still love to listen to "Blockbuster" or " The winner takes it all" once in a while and feel a warm place in my heart. and I can remember why I thought Brian Connolly was sexy and cool in spite of the blow dried, long hair. May he rest in peace...

I find for the most part I've outgrown Rush. The years of listnening to them through high school & college I think finally took its toll

I completely agree with huevo on RATM. I think they were absolutely brilliant, but I have a tough time listening to their stuff now. And like you, it's not because I dislike them, it's just that I'm (kind of) over that stage in my life.

I think.
