Given: V = 125 cu in Required: a. Length of an edge, a b. surface area of the cube, S Solution: The formula for the volume of a cube, V with length of side a, is V = a^3 a) Substitute given values to the above formula 125 cu in = a^3 a = √125 cu in a = 5 in ------------>>> answer b) A cube has six (6) equal lateral sides. One lateral side is a square. The area of a square A with length of side a is given as A = a^2 substitute known value of side a; A = (5 in)^2 = 25 sq in The total surface area of the cube S, therefore is S = 6A S = 6(25 sq in) S = 150 sq in ------------>>> answer
