I live in a very old building (built in 1940's), and I imagine the windows are very old too. If I sit in the window in the sun, am I being exposed to UV rays?

Yes you are exposed. You need to install a good window film. I would suggest 3M Prestige film. It has the highest level of UV protection available and also blocks Infa red heat. It comes in clear and tinted. It also acts as a security film and can help with break ins and hurricanes. It also has a lifetime warranty.

Do not use a cheaper film as they all have a thin layer of metal inside of them that starts to corrode almost as soon as it is applied and will turn colors over the years. I would suggest that you make contact with the building co-op or association and recommend that they reauire this film if anyone wants film so that the outer appearance of the building is not altered by the use of many different types of film. Also, Prestige has NO metal so it won't fade or dis-color.

uncomplicated window glass attenuates "some distance UV" rays (extra risky) sufficiently which you will desire to not be in danger. it is going to nonetheless enable the decrease frequency UV via, and extremely lengthy time era publicity to those can bleach fabric and different products. Blinds that close block all UV. while open, there would be some UV meditated from the slats, particularly in the event that they are organic white or some close to-violet coloration that is gentle sufficient to replicate UV. There does not be lots, even then.

UV protection is added to windows. At the age of your building, if the windows have not been replaced, it is highly doubtful the protection has been installed. You can purchase window film to cure this problem.
