Why does the fuse box cover use special thread screws?

If memory serves, these are #12 UNF screws with oversize heads and extended taper. These are used to discourage do-it-yourselfers from taking off panel covers, as well as to facilitate panel assembly. Take the hint and get a licensed electrician to do your wiring. Electrical wiring is a prime example of "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.".

Is it a fuse box or a circuit breaker box?
The screws are usually not unusual, they may have a course thread but the screws simply hold the cover to the box body.
Replacement screws should have the same thread as the originals so the cover fits securely.
