They dont have to if you dont want them to. Tell them no.
They check it when you're full term in some offices because its their practice. You can be dilated or effaced and not notice it, and they like to know where you are.
But the dont HAVE to, especially if you havent had contractions or cramps. You can tell them to wait until you have them.

The cervix can and often does open up a little before delivery. They will be checking to see if it has. Don't worry this is normal. If you don't want to however, then you can of course say no. However, you can always ask what they are looking for also when they check the cervix so you are better informed. But having gone through it three times with my wife and having been an EMT, I know it is just normal. Have a healthy child.

It's just standard practice. You could be dilated and never even know. My doctor starts checking your cervix at 38 weeks with every patient. And I think it's a good idea. At 38 weeks I was dilated a fingertip. At 39 weeks I was dilated to 1 and 50% effaced.

You don't have to get them to do it, if you don't want to, say no! I got them to check for me around 38 weeks and again at 39 and 40. That is just because I was curious and it helps the mother and the doctor know where you are in terms of labor. No matter what, they are going to check you over and over again while in the hospital in labor, so if you are feeling that you may feel violated, get rid of that thought! Before you know it you will have 1-4 people all looking inside of your wahoo, checking you for dilation and effacement every couple of hours. You can be dilated and effaced and not even know.

They check your cervix as you begin to approach your due date to monitor your progress and see if your cervix is preparing for labor (dilating and effacing). This is very normal and your doctor will probably check every week now up until the baby is born.

My doctor never did, and you don't have to let yours! So you find out you are dilated to 1, whats that gonna do for you. Freak you out cause every time you sneeze you will think you are going into labor and will spend the next 3 weeks wondering why you haven't gone into labor cause you are dilated to 1! It doesn't matter what you are dilated to until you are in active labor, in the hospital, and they are waiting for you to be ready to push! My opinion was the doctor could keep her fingers out of me for as long as possible, because I had enough going on down there!

they are checking to see how far dilated your cervix is. it is nothing to be worried about. they are just checking to see where your body is at in terms of getting ready to deliver. good luck!
