age--I think this really is a BIG factor, b/c one has to learn certain things and experience them before maturity reigns supreme.
Other traits: accepting responsibility (for actions, and yes, sometimes for the actions of others b/c you his/her influence upon them); acknowledging when he/she is wrong; acting the role of the "proverbial" adult by not playing games with people's emotions...in other words: TELLING THE TRUTH--honesty's a very important quality of being mature; living in the present, while having the foresight to take the future in account; standing firm on decisions made; having manners...

In my mind age is seperate from maturity. There are plenty of very mature 15 year olds and plenty of very immature 40 year olds.
To me, part of it is lifestyle. Another is independence.
Intellect, empathy.

The ability to look into their own souls with honesty and without judgment. To know themselves, accept themselves and not feel the need to apologize for who they are.
(which is not the same as saying they don't apologize for a mistake)

Qualities. Age has nothing to do with it.
After all, you are only young once but you can stay immature forever.
