I think it's a good option...Haren is a 1A starter and would complement Beckett very well...

ssshadii = typical Yankees fan

Listen dude, the Yankees ARE going after Santana, they'd be stupid not to. They need an ace. Wang is good, but he's a sinkerballer, not a staff ace. Also look at that five man rotation you just through out there. Wang and the 600 Mussina are the only two with any "real" major league experience. Chamberlain, Hughes and Kennedy combined for 115.2 innings of work last year. None of them are sure things over the long haul...Johan Santana is a sure thing. He's the best pitcher of this generation.

Secondly, it doesn't make any sense to insult the Red Sox rotation, they just won the World Series with that rotation. Adding Santana only makes them better and they'll do it without giving up any key pieces of the regular rotation.

I'm sick and tired of fans who don't know a damn thing coming on here and giving stupid answers that talk up their team (generally the Yankees) and bash another team (generally the Red Sox) without any logic and/or evidence to back up their claims.

I don't think the Sox have any intention of going after another starter if they don't land Santana. Essentially, there are only two reasons why they've even jumped into the Santana Sweepstakes.

1) To keep the Yankees from getting him.
2) Because it's Johan Santana...he's a once-in-a-generation pitcher and they'd be stupid to pass up what is essentially the only shot at him they'll ever have.

Dan Haren is not a once-in-a-generation pitcher. He's not a game changer the way Santana is. He's not even that big of a threat if he lands in New York, at least not to the level that Santana is. Haren is a fine pitcher, but he's not Johan Santana.

I'm not a Red Sox fan but if they don't land Johan Santana they might look into Dontrelle Willis first then maybe Dan Haren otherwise they won't be going after any pitchers at all.

Haren is an Ace and would be a welcomed addition to any team as would Blanton on the A's. When you are as good as these pitchers there is not much difference between them on their best days. You can bet that many teams, including the Red Sox, have their eyes focused on this kind of talent.

First of all, Santana is not a lock since the Yanks are retooling their offer for him, and the Mets may still be coming up with an offer as well. Secondly, I respect that pitching staff in Boston enough (except for Schilling) that Haren isn't really necessary. Haren gives up home runs and you don't need that. Let someone else get him --- like the "other" Sox whose GM is an idiot unlike Epstein.

It could turn out to be a better option for Boston to get Haren. He is possibly the most underrated pitcher in baseball and a great # 2 starter who could win 16-18 games a year in Boston. Also, they could probably keep Bucholz and Ellsbury if they go the Haren route. Haren is only 26 years old.

I'm a yankees fan and ssshadi, your an idiot. Beckett and santana would = 6 WS titles, in a 5 game series one of them can pitch twice, look there, 3 games! in a 7 game series they can pitch in atleast 5, randy johnson and schilling did it for arizona, fool.

The mets won't get santana without reyes in the deal, plain and simple, Milledge and pelfrey are garbage.

I don't think they need him...they have a six man rotation right now...so if they are going after Santana that is an upgrade and would be arguably the best starting rotation in the majors...if they don't get Santana I would just leave the rotation as it is.

No way I would never want Dan Haren. ex-Oakland pitchers are to be avoided altogether.
