I do think that the proliferation of "new toys" is becoming an addiction for some people. Young people in particular seem to "need" a new phone every few months, and it has to take videos and show satellite television on it as well as taking pictures and, oh yes, making phone calls !
I recently heard a commentator saying that, before purchasing any new technological gadget, you should ask yourself one question..."What problem do I have, to which this new thing will be the solution?". It cuts through the B.S. and makes you think about the subject objectively.
(I'm also applying the above question to all the nonsensical memos that my new boss is sending out like confetti, but that's another story !)

Depends on what you mean by "junkies." Just because someone makes use of technology doesn't make him/her a "junky."
It is certainly true that more and more people all over the world use technology. IMHO that is mostly -- but not entirely -- a good thing. For example, more and more people are driving cars and adding to global warming. But does driving a car make you a technology junky? Hardly.

I believe so.
There are a lot of people nowadays willing to wait in long lines, to get the newest products. Most want to be first to try them out and show off their new gadgets.
Our little guys are growing up in a world of high speed everything.
I for one, am still trying to learn the computer and the cell phone.
In this day in time, it's good to have some knowledge or get left behind.

LOL... OK... Yes, I can't help but wonder what would happen to most folks if the electricity went off! No more satellite's, etc,.I would imagine that when or if this happens... It won't be a good situations for many of us. I'm guilty too, most of my shopping is done on line as I can't brave the malls anymore. I do have a bigger more secure computer that I do this on... Technology! I'm trying!

Twenty years ago, I tried to live in Mexico and freelanced as a writer. In the local community we had one long distance phone capability and one fax. It didn't work for me. With advanced technology I can work with clients all over the world. Its a blessing.

Yes. We have become, never mind becoming, and more and more technology is being thrust at us daily.
It is not a bad thing, per se, but we keep on buying more things, and I believe, we must think, if we really need that gadget or this gadget. Will it make my life less stressful? That is my yardstick, anyway.

I'm not good with tech gadgets, so I'm no junkie. My dad and my son love all the gadgets and I would consider them tech junkies.
