It is a shame that teachers are allowing students to "go soft" on the weekends. The students already have the entire summer off, make them work hard when school in is session.
This country is fast falling behind nations such as Japan, China, and India because of this relaxed educational system.

hi fellow instructor, that's been exciting examining all the responses. I comprehend precisely what you're saying. From pupil habit and physique of strategies to determine and administrative behaviors. I practice technology and one element that I even have performed is deny participation in lab if the scholars have lacking artwork. This works for some. extremely of doing the lab, they could sit down at their table and finished their lacking assignments. It does pose some issues nonetheless, because of the fact there are people who nonetheless refuse to do the artwork, and that's complicated to video exhibit the two communities at one time. To be elementary, I hardly supply homework anymore, not because of the fact the scholars do not do it a lot as there is not any assure that they are those that finished it. a good number of cheating and copying occurring and that i don't understand they're clueless until that's try time. I even have given easy ending touch examine grades for homework and then given daily quizzes to be certain in the event that they actually comprehend what is going on. i think of that a number of the techniques you have won will artwork for some scholars yet not for others. i might hesitate to tell you to spend very much of your own funds on "treats" as which could get relatively out of hand. If grades are actually not a motivator, i'm interior the comparable boat as you're. i'm sorry i'm not from now on help. i think of all of us journey this frustration. And yet I totally agree that coaching is a calling. attempt to entice close on until summer season and a a lot deserved relax.

The kids need time to be kids too you know. I am more concerned about the teachers who never give HW at all. If there is a project or something, I have no problem having them do it over a weekend

They have enough homework Mon-Fri. Families need time together WITHOUT homework sometimes. Kids need to have time to go outside and play and time to explore other activities besides what is in the classroom. There is much learning to be done in the world around them as well as school work. Sometimes kids just need a break....do you ever have a weekend off of work? Do you like to spend that weekend doing all of your work AT HOME instead of having time for yourself and your family?

I'm not a teacher but I don't like getting H/W on a Friday because it should be a relaxing day. Give weekend h/w any other day but Friday is special!

Are you a mom? Sounds like it.. Think back to when you were younger... Would you want to be doing homework on weekends or would you rather take it easy and play with your friends? When they get older... say High School, College, then their assignments would carry over into the weekends and even into the late evenings..

I assigned homework when homework needed to be done, and that included weekends. But, I avoided assigning weekend homework as much as possible simply because it seldom got done except with my honors and AP students.
Teachers can't win. We get criticized for not assigning enough homework, and we get criticized for assigning too much because it stresses out the students. I do wish the critics would decide what they want.

I agree, in a way. I dont want them to necessarily have more homework--because children need a break also, but I think that they should give them something.
