I'm from the south, so I had never had apple cider.
A couple of years ago I was in the Florida Panhandle and it was freezing. Everyone was huddled around a fire and I was given a cup of hot apple cider, it was delicious.
I saw the man who prepared it put in a round packet of spices and have not been able to find out what the were are where you can purchase them.
I've looked around Wal-Mart and have never seen anything resembling that packet or anything that says hot apple cider spices.
Could someone from the great white north please clue me in? What am I suppose to season apple cider with?
I need an expert:~)

I live in Central Florida; but I've been making mulled cider for years. I guess being born in Ohio, but living in Florida for 40 years makes me a hybrid....;)

1 Gallon apple cider
2 cups orange juice
4 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 sliced apple
1 orange peeled and sectioned
Apricot brandy

Mix all the ingredients except the brandy in a slow cooker (crockpot), heat on high for 30 minutes, then on low for at least 1 hour. You can also use a ceramic lined pan on a stove, just heat on low for at least 1.5 hours. To serve, pour a shot of apricot brandy in a coffee mug, then fill with cider, stir. The brandy is not necessary, the cider tastes great without it...but for those who drink any alcohol the brandy makes it luscious.

y store carries a dehydrated apple cider. It comes in a packet and you just add that to hot water. Could this have been what he used? If not, all other suggestions are good. Buy the cider in a jug and do your add-ins to your liking.

It's usually made with cinnamon, at least. Some also use allspice instead, or a mixture of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg or any other sweet spices.

I'm glad that a nice hot cup was able to warm you.

Hope this helps

There are some wonderful recipes here! I did get some of those spices, they are called mulling spices, but I got mine at a gift shop. Try Cracker Barrel.

Gladys, with those fixins "don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me"

oh, forgot -- most people I know throw in a cinnamin stick

A cinnamon stick with a shot of peach brandy. Takes the chill out of your bones on a cold winter's day, and after a few of them, you'll think it was summer again!

Mulling spices perhaps? My sister uses those when she makes her famous mulled wine. It's a combination of many spices.
