I am not a Muslim but I am ashamed by the way a lot of non Muslims are reacting.
People seem to be using it as an excuse to air their racist opinions...
Suddenly it's all Muslims who are at fault, Muslims are all evil radicals who want to kill us all and we're at war with them...
The case is that it's the justice system in one country which has taken it too far... not all Muslims can be held accountable... I know I wouldn't want to be held accountable for something a judge in America decides whilst I sit at home in England!
The point is, she was in their country and should have been obiding by their laws whether we or her agree with them or not
I think the whole case has been taken too far... a simple reminder from a colleague that it wasn't a good idea to name the teddy Mohammed (creating an image of the prophet in their eyes) would have been adequate...
She doesn't deserve to be lashed/put in prison/given a fine... all she needed was a reminder and the choice to either stick to their beliefs or come home
EDIT:
It's completely irrelevant whether they obide by our rules (the majority of them so far as I am aware do). If they don't, shouldn't we be the bigger people and have the strength to set a good example?
EDIT:
Mark, you explained exactly what I wanted to but in a much better way...thank you

I'm not Muslin, but it's clear to me that the name Mohamed is very, VERY important to Muslims.
Calling a son Mohamed is OK (even though you never actually know at that point, if the boy will do the name proud), but using the name for a toy is clearly blasphemy.
Gillian is very lucky that she only has 15 days in jail. If she'd been Sudanese, she would probably have been given lashes.
If you think they are going to far, just think back to the Life of Brian and the controversy that film generated in 1979 with all of the protests and banning of the movie because of it's possibly blaspheming interpretation. We as a nation aren't as committed to our religions as the Sudan.
She got punished for making a mistake, which as a teacher she should have been in a position to avoid - and she must pay for that mistake to ensure that justice is done. Just because you don't care if someone insults your religious icons, at least those who follow Islam do.

nicely the pro-Islams calls you names - marvel marvel! and the Buddhist who thinks we ought to continually not factor arms and contact names and stay in peace in an octopuses backyard possibly, - factors his finger and calls you stupid. Arabs did not sell slaves, who's kidding who, additionally maximum Arabs are muslim of one variety or yet another in the comparable way that maximum Europeans are Christian of one variety or yet another, i think of the folk who've deemed to impart their expertise on you're the two living a life-time of denial or pushing propoganda, and none of them replied the question. Siince i'm not muslim i'm unlikely to furnish a hypocritical answer yet what i visit assert is that not something that is going down in the call of any faith surprises me to any extent further and in those very pc days to criticise islam isn't welcomed. - Technically you at the instant are not criticising, yet any remark which isn't openly praising Islam, is seen as a critique. marvel marvel!

Yes I was born into a Muslim family. But can you blame me for becoming agnostic at such a young age? 'Religion' has no place/importance in my precious life.
The situation in Khartoum is insanely hideous. I feel like burying my face in non-existant sand.
Every single muslim I know is so embarrassed by this. They just don't know how to react. Some find it funny.
This is possibly the biggest load of sh-it I've ever heard of!
In protest I'm going to name my non-existing dog Mohammed. And my parents can suck on that!!!!!

Fairy:
What law? Sharia law, the law that depends on how you interpret the teachings. So your fate rests on how someone feels that day. Muslims seem to jump on the band wagon in this country when there feelings are hurt. "we don't like christmas", "Britian has caused the suicide bombers in the UK", "what do you mean our women have to follow dress codes, your rules don't apply to us" Save it. They bring critisism on themselves. Now it's time for them to shut their mouths and hang their heads in shame. Look what happened over a cartoon, can you image the carnage if the roles were reversed and we were trumping up charges, and calling for the death of a muslim, over naming a teddy bear Jesus.

I wonder how Mohammed himself would have thought about this? Proud or embarrassed?

I am not Muslim, but I just dont understand it! I feel so sorry for her and although I agree that when you are in another country you should abide by their laws and rules, I find it amazing that we still have to bend to allow muslims to do what they want in our country. I am not racist, but the saying "when in Rome" should be applicable to all countries, not just a select few! If there are parents whose children are called Mohammed will they be arrested too? I find it all ridiculous if Im honest!

Careful... the way you worded this question makes it sound like you are looking for people who "Use Muslims" - That's 40 lashes for sure!!!
EDIT: Funny isn't it that there are plenty of "thumbs downs" appearing but no good defending arguments?

She's lucky she only got 15 days.
She'd have got more if she'd told them the bear's full name - "Mohammed the Pooh"
