Well I have been having contractions for a while on randomly. Now for the past 2 days I get them from 7 pm to 1 am only minutes apart but then they fade. I asked the doctor I was scheduled to meet with yesterday about it and she all she said was if it was concerning to me I could do another fetal fibronectin test. I told her I don't know if I should be concerned because this is my first and she just really didn't give me an opinion or anything. I took the test and am waiting to hear the results later today but has anyone had this happen? I don't really get the contractions as much during the day. I am only 31 weeks and 2 days so obviosly a little concerned over pre term labor. Any thoughts?

This sounds perfectly normal to me. With my last 2 pregnancies, I've had painful, regular Braxton-Hicks contractions that subsided when I lay down and rested. They were so regular and persistent for several days, though, that I really did think I was in labor.

But you'll know when you are because they won't go away and they'll get increasingly painful (hard to talk while having one) and frequent.

Until then, you can find relief by staying hydrated and getting rest. You'll be happy you did when labor finally does come, because it's very hard work!

All the best to you!

A fetal fibronectin test really isn't going to tell you anything. If it comes back positive, it means you are at risk for going into labor in the next two weeks, but it doesn't mean you will. In fact, most of the women who test positive do NOT go into preterm labor.

If you are having contraction episodes in the evening that eventually go away, this is typical uterine irritability caused by dehydration and the activities of your day. When you feel it happening, lie down and rest and drink plenty of water to hydrate yourself. The contractions should ease up. If they are uncomfortable or crampy feeling as opposed to just tightening, and if they go on regularly for more than an hour then call your doctor.

I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. Sounds normal. But never hesitate to call your doc anytime something unusual is happening or if you aren't sure.

Good luck!

I have really long, drawn out labors. And 2 out of 3 of mine so far I was like that for a week before baby came. I'm glad you had the second FFN adn hope the results are negative. Good luck to you adn congratulations.

the only thing i can tell you is i had my baby 14 weeks early, and here we are 6 months later with a healthy baby. so if the baby does come early, it will be underdeveloped, but okay. i know it's easier said than done, but don't stress yourself out over this. i hope all goes well for you! good luck!
