I think it is possible. The life span decreases when the time goes on because harmful substances enter oyr body and decreases the life span.

if the story was true, he would have been 99 years old when the American Revolution happened.......
now, does that sound likely?
today, with the best medical care in history, the best sanitation in history, the best food production and distribution in history.......what is the maximum????? 125, 130?
and you think someone born in the 17th century...or 57 years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth......would live twice as long as a twentieth century person....

I am not going to say it is completely impossible, just very unlikely to the highest degree.
I am not sure how accurate the record keeping was during that time, so there is plenty of reason to dispute it. Even with modern medicines, it is rare for a person to live over the age of 100.
As for the bible, many details in it have been it have been proven false and accurecy is very unreliable.

Alright, no one has lived longer then 140 years old, and if they did it wasn't God's doing. But that's not to say that it couldn't happen with advances in technology.
The actual cause of aging is pretty simple,. Mitochondrial waste, known as free radicals (you might have heard bullshit infomercials mention them) fly from cells into other adjacent cells hitting and damaging DNA, yeah they're pretty small,
So if the DNA in your skin cells get damaged, and they stop telling themselves to produce collagen, you get wrinkles.
Some animals for unknown reasons produce far fewer of these free radicals so thy live abnormally long lives (parrots are the classic example, living upwards of 80 years!)
There are sea anemones that live 150 years,
so if we could thwart the free radicals then in theory we wouldn't age, living thousands of years, but thats a long ways off
However gene therapy on animals with simpler genetic makeup, like worms, have increased there lifespan up to six fold!
so sooner or later....who wants to live that long anyways?

Conventional wisdom says no, but on the other hand, who knows? It's hard to imagine, and it is pretty damn unlikely, but all sorts of different freaks of nature are known to exist or have existed.
