You left out one variable. I need to know your rate of speed.

On the highway: 24 minutes at 60, about 20 minutes and 30 seconds at 70, about 19 minutes at 75mph. So speeding on a highway saves you a measly 24-19 = 5 minutes on the 24 miles drive!

Same kind of deal in the city: 48 minutes at 30mph, about 41 minutes at 35mph, about 36 minutes at 40mph....
....you gain/save a DECENT 12 minutes time by "slightly speeding" over a 30mph speed limit at 40mph on city streets.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, lesson of the day, if you are going to "slightly speed", do it in the CITY! :-)

Also note, add +5 to 10 minutes to the city times to take traffic light stops and stop sign waits into account...and perhaps a huge amount of time (say it takes twice as long) if you hit heavy traffic ;-)

24 miles on an interstate at an average of 60 m.p.h. will take 24 minutes. 24 miles on city streets at an average of 30 m.p.h. will take 48 minutes. It's a function of time, speed, and distance. On a race track at an average speed of 120 m.p.h, it'll only take 12 minutes. ( Don't try that one on public roads !)

How fast are you driving? At 24 mph, it will take one hour. Obviously, if you go twice as fast, it will take 1/2 the time, or 30 minutes.
Math wise,
Time (hours) = distance (miles) / speed ( mph)

As a fellow driver on the roads, if I were you I would set the cruise at 1mph and plan a full day and night to get to where are going. If you leave at 9AM today you will be there by 9AM tomorrow. Be safe!
