I believe you are given opportunity, but you have to act on this,
that is destiny, you can take hold of it, or sit idly and watch it pass you.

According to what I’ve taught and preached for over a quarter of a century, I’d have to say that we all have a certain destiny. However, this isn’t to say that this is fixed in concrete, or more correctly, precisely what is going to happen in our lives.
I believe that God sets things up for each and every one of us, and then we’re given the opportunity to follow through or not as our own choice. Think of a series of doors presented to us, and we’re given the choice(s) of which one or ones we’ll open. Somebody had to pick the doors, and that was God’s part. Which one or ones got opened was/is our part. Same with the ones that weren’t chosen.
Boy, that sorta snags predestination and free will with the same nail, doesn’t it? We don’t necessarily make our own destiny, but we can fulfill it, and even at times go beyond it, overcoming what some folks might perceive as negative influences and the like. By the same token, some folks seem to never even come close to fulfilling their destinies, and just kind of sink under all the adversity they face in their lives.
Makes me wonder if our heavenly rewards are based on what we do with our destinies. I don’t necessarily believe in fate as such, but I do believe that there are certain inevitable outcomes to certain courses of action. Fate implies that, despite whatever anyone might do to the contrary, things are just simply going to turn out a specific way, and nothing will change that. Some folks succumb to that sort of thinking, while others refuse to do so.

I can't give you a firm yes or no on this question. I've heard it said that we make our own destiny. I wonder about that statement. Some babies are born into such difficult circumstances that they have little chance of survival. They don't get the chance to make their own destiny. Poor little babes.
By the time we are adults I do believe we are responsible for our actions and the consequences of those actions. I'm a Christian and believe that God is in control of this world.

I believe that everyone has a destiny...whether or not we all live our life in such a way as to create the best destiny is totally up to each of us as individuals. We have to have a belief in something whether it's destiny, fate, God, Science or Karma...we and no one else, is responsible for what we do with our life...how we shape it and thusly how it shapes us.
Life provides us with challenges, lessons and triumphs...how we look at these is part of what forms our destiny. If we choose to look upon challenges as a waste of our time or not worth the energy to work through, then our destiny will be that of someone who doesn't grow, settling instead for mediocrity. Lessons...same thing, learn from the lessons that life throws at you and you continue to traverse along the path towards that which you are meant to follow, with more knowledge, tenacity and skill. Take no interest or understanding in the lessons and drift along aimlessly wondering what you're actually going to do with your life and thus why you should even bother. Triumphs are the fuel which encourages us to move ahead, to seek out the next challenge or lesson that we understand to be necessary in order for us to achieve ...what else? Our destiny.
You can live it, or waste it...or even throw it away but what you do with your life is your destiny ... how meaningful that destiny is...well, it's totally up to each of us as individuals. Take a passive role, gain a passive existance. Take an active role, gain the priviledge of attaining whatever level of destiny you wish to strive for.

I believe you create your own destiny. You are given opportunity's to act up on, if you don't react to the right opportunity, then you head down a different path.
Only you........can change your destiny, unless two paths cross and you become injured by someone else's poor judgement. That's a different story all in it's own

Destiny as in - Fate? Providence?
Yes and no.
Yes, in that we are all preprogrammed to one extent or another from birth with various abilities and talents. If we discover these strengths and then expand upon them, we will follow them as they propel us through life.
No, in that each small thing we do has potentially profound implications as to what we find before us as a direct or indirect result.
For instance... if you were married but met someone whom you felt you wanted to have an affair with, your life then stands at a crossroads. Your choice will impact your life and the lives of others from that point forward. I don't think that we are predestined to that choice though we may find that getting to the moment of making that choice was determined by the natural course our life had taken up until then.

I do, predestination has always been what I believe in. Some where is a book where all of history and the future is written down and we are just the characters in the story.

If you believe that you aren't going to go very far in life, you probably won't. By thinking pessimistically, you are depriving yourself of acheiving what you are capable of. You can always achieve more than you think you can; so, set your goals high, and you will achieve high.
