It seems like everyone here gave you good advice except for B E.. The minority is actually the majority in Phoenix and in Tucson. I highly doubt that you will have a problem being an interracial couple. Almost all of the couples I know are interracial and have never had a problem. There aren't really any specific cities that you need to avoid but consulting a realtor never hurts. The west side had boomed like crazy but since the housing market has declined, there are a lot of home owners that are taking whatever they can get.

Like you already pointed out, all areas tend to have predjudice. But there are some areas that are quite tolerant too. A few already mentioned Glendale as a cuturally tolerant area. Definately avoid the downtown Phoenix area. My in-laws live in a racially diverse neighborhood on the eastern side of Phoenix, and you'll also find a nice mixed neighborhood in the southern part of Scottsdale. Tempe also has mixed neighborhoods too.
My suggestion is to seek out a reputable real estate agent to discuss the kind of neighborhood you are looking for. Good luck to you!

I'm from Virginia but I've lived in Tucson and spent many weekends in the Phoenix area. I love Arizona and plan on moving back there permanently. Phoenix is a city that is very diverse and safe for an iterracial couple. You will see many more while you're there. The main area of Phoenix I would have to tell you to avoid is the area south of downtown and west of I-10. It's a lil bit heavier on crime in that region than anywhere else in the city in my opinion. Overall, I think you'll love the area.

I live in the Phoenix area, and I think it's safe. My best friend is half of an interracial couple, and she's never had any situations at all. Phoenix/Scottsdale/Mesa/Tempe area is comparatively urban, with the usual tolerant attitudes you could find in many urban areas. Sure there are the cowboy types, but they aren't really in the metro areas. Overall, I encountered a lot more racism when I was living near Philadelphia. I love AZ, it's almost December and my windows are wide open.

Its prety diverse considering the hispanic population . . .
Tempe/ North scottsdale : yuppies, college kids
West / south phoenix : hood, low income
Glendale : good and bad parts, mostly blue collar / lower middle class
North phoenix : mixed
Chandler / gilbert / paradise city : wealthy
Peoria / Apache Junction : middle class
East Phoenix : Mix between hispanics and lower class
Rent is a lot higher here than usual, when I moved here i found you have to pay extra to live in apts. that screen for illegals / criminals, so unless you both have decent jobs or the ability to get decent jobs (jobs like retail, gas stations, grocery stores, are pretty competive w/ the population influx) you may want to look around the outskirts of town for cheaper rent in safer neighborhoods, I currently live in east phoenix / south scottsdale, its not the best but it could be worse. All the apt.complexes here are exactly the same w/i price ranges.

I wouldn't recommend South or West Phoenix. Don't confuse West with way west like Avondale, Good Year and Surprise, these cities are rapidly growing and are a good place to raise a family. North Central Phoenix, Scottsdale (Richy area), Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert and Awatukee are all nice areas, they all have their pockets of not so good areas, but are small pockets compared to others. Scottsdale and Tempe have the night life. Chandler and Gilbert are more family oriented. Mesa has a lot of Mormons.

Phoenix and Scottsdale are very diversified. It is not unusual to see mixed couples of all ages. I have interracial friends that live in the Glendale area and in North Scottsdale. So that is almost end to end.
For more information about the Phoenix area, take a look at http://www.insider-scottsdale.com - you will find out the shops and restaurants and get to know the area. They also have photos.

The predominant people in AZ are white people...sorry....however, in Gilbert where I live there are interracial couples in the area. Dominican/Irish, AA/Mexican, AA/Italian, Mexican/Polish...these are some of the people that I know in the area I live in that are interracial. In terms of culture...if your coming from San Francisco, Chicago, NY...areas with truly diversed culture then Phoenix is not going to measure up...as of yet. Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Gilbert are all great areas and you shouldn't have a problem...mabe avoid South Phoenix but that should be for all people not just interacial. Culturally diverse areas of phoenix are limited...go with an area with good schools and resources.
