Not really sure about the fairies, but I know in Santa Claus the Movie (the one with Dudley Moore) He started out as a guy who carved toys for the kids and would go out and deliver them on Christmas.. (before he was Santa.. ) There might have been some fairies in the beginning, but I can't recall them..
