I'm zone 7 and most people including myself wait until the last spring freeze to prune our crepe myrtles. I wouldn't do it now either.
Good Luck

Crepe myrtle flowers on new growth of the season, so you can prune plants any time during the late winter or early spring before growth begins without loss of flower buds. Avoid pruning in early fall before the first frost, because pruning forces new growth and keeps the plant from going dormant. Severe freezes can kill the plant if it is not fully dormant.

You can go ahead and prune them anytime, cutting them to about 3 feet from the ground would be good. They recover pretty quickly once they start growing in the spring, and since they bloom on new wood and in summer, fall is the idea time to prune after they have gone dormant. You can even wait until spring if you want to, they don't normally leaf out until May.

It's very safe to prune them. I have some that we pruned about two months ago. My wife whacked off 5 feet on some of them...which isn't too abnormal based on the size of our trees. We live in SC.
We've even pruned a foot off in the middle of the summer! Be then again, our can tower 10 to 15 feet sometimes

good luck

Fall is the perfect time for pruning

no, no, no!!
Wait till the Spring!!

Prune all you want after Resurrection Day!
There is usually a frost in the middle of April--NEVER fails!

You have waited too late.
Then again I guess it depends on if you are in the Fall of the year, where YOU are!

while its ok to prune them now you would be better off waiting til early spring. This way it will stimulate growth quicker in the spring.

Sure. You're actually supposed to have done it by now, but it won't hurt anything to do it during the colder weather.
