It is simply a joke and I'm sure the Mc was added on because of McDonalds. It's almost as if McDreamy is a side order of delicious or something. It's kind of bizarre but it has taken hold. Everyone knows who McDreamy is which is kind of funny.

yeah that's kinda the point. He was just the next "dreamy" guy to come along for merideth and since mcdonalds always has some new fad sandwhich, mcdreamy is kinda like a way to descibe him. but in a way it's kinda an insult too. and of course mcsteamy then came along. And i think they referenced "doc" as mcdog for a little bit too.

It was off the show called "Greys Anatomy." Christina started it with McDreamy for Dr. Sheppard, than came McSteamy aka Dr. Saloan and there was also McVet... It's just a Grey's Anatony thing...
