I would start Frank Gore because Gore is a healthier athlete than James after when he hurt his ankle. Also he is a more solid running back that could gain yards because he is a veteran running back.

Carolina D has given up 11 rushing tds to Cleveland's 6. Plus, I don't ever start Edgerin James if I can possibly avoid it. Go with Frank Gore.

Tough choice. I would say James has the better matchup, but I expect Arizona to be playing from behind the whole game which means passing will dominate.
Go with Gore. He had a huge game last week, and San Fran will look to control the clock vs. Carolina.

I'd go with gore.
Edge has been iffy as of late. since he doesn't get many yards (since the bye, in his last four games he's only averaged 51 yds a game) and doesn't get receiving yards (he's never gone for more than 22 a game all year), you're really angling for a TD here and really only of the within-the-5 variety (in that same 4 game span, the longest run he's had was of 9 yards) and even then he gets 1 about every 2 games.
he'll get you about 7pts in a standard yahoo format, but i think gore has more upside.
he seems to be coming back nicely from injury having gotten week 9 off. since then he's steadly seen his participation in the offense increase (15 carries and touches week 10, 20 in week 11, 32 in week 12). not coincidentally the niners have been staying more competitive. And vs the panthers this week, they should have no problem at least staying in the game as CAR has yet to score more than 17pts in a game since their bye in week 7. the cardinals play the browns and most likely have to lean on their passing game to keep up with derek anderson and company.
go with gore and start him with confidence.
good luck.
p.s. - as for "tired", gore had over 200yds combined last week and 2 tds. Edge had 90 combined, but it was Edge's backup, marcell shipp, who had all 3 of arizona's carries within the 10-yard line.

I would take "the Edge" versus Cleveland. They're playing at home and expect Warner to have another big passing day. AND what does the passing game open up? The Running game and the screen pass, both high on Edge's list.
Gore's knees look tired right about now and I think he's just going through the motions in the 4th quarter.

Willis McGahee seems to think that Frank Gore is the best RB to ever come out of the U.
thats saying a lot, coming from McGahee, who also came out of the U.
