You have to have the right kind of snow, dry powdery snow won't work. Then you form the snow into a ball and start to roll it around on the ground. As you roll it around, it will pick up more snow and grow bigger. when it is big enough for you, make another big "snow ball" and set it on top of the first one. Make a third one, and set it atop the other two, and voila, you have a snow man. Use charcoal briquettes for the eyes and mouth, a carrot for the nose, a couple of tree branches for arms, then wrap an old scarf around it's neck and put a hat on him and you are done. Use your imagination...add some cloth around the waist for a skirt and you have a snow girl! Make a whole snow family! It's fun!

If the snow is good for making into a snowman (has to be slightly sticky and wants to stick together) then make a snowball in your hand and then roll it along the ground.

It will pick up more and more snow - try and keep it symetrical otherwise you end up with a log!

When big enough, stop. This can be the body. Then roll another one slightly smaller and put it on top - this can be the head.

Decorate with buttons, carrots and a hat.

When my grandad was alive we used a garden spade to gather the snow and then we'd put it into a pile. Us kids would pat the snowman into shape while he would keep gathering the snow. Also you can use carrots but don't put scarves on it (in my neighbourhood they would probably get stole.)

but you can also either, gather the snow and use a smaller spade to shape it, I made a snowy owl this year. While my sister rolled the snow, it was huge. Then once you have a big ball of snow, then you make a smaller one and put it on top. voila la snow man. Although you will get cold quickly so wrap up warm.

lol, the snow we usuallu have in my area is too weak and falkey to roll into a ball, we usually shovel or sweep it together in a pile and then smack the whole thing together using out hands!! the head is harder to make this way, its usuallu helpful to make it somewhere elevated like on a wall of table outside so less diatnce to carry it on the top of the snowman! first make the lower part of the body make a normal sized snowballed them roll it in the snow then make the middle part again doing the same thing but make it smaller than the first and for the head the same thing. make sure it looks proportional then for the nose a carrot of corse get some thigns from the craft store for the eyes and mouth and anything else you want to add. for the hands either use sticks or whatever you want.
