Seems everyone finds it really weird that I am a big hip hop fan. When I ask the question why is that weird- people respond because of my age. I have been a hip hopper going back to Dre/Snoop. Is this unusal for a 52 year old "granny" to like hip hop?????

It's acceptable to like any "art" that you want. Sure it's not mainstream for a 52 yo to be into that form of art, but I for one think that's it's tedious to always be listening to classic rock, lite rock, easy listening, smooth jazz, etc. I prefer to listen to edgy and new stuff, so in this day and age that includes hip hop (but just like ANY genre of art, I think most of what gets produced is junk, but also like any genre, there is some really good stuff). Music and art are suppose to be fun, so have fun!

As for being a 52 year old grandmother in general, I date one (she is a bit older than me, but technically not a "cougar"). She may not like hip hop (I got her listening to alternative though), but she can kick the butt's of people half her age. She is in much better shape than almost all 26 year olds and when I go to clubs with her, when I get back from the rest room, that seems to be the age of the guys hanging around her. So don't think you need to be pigeon-holed into any behavior based on your age. Her parents (in their 80s) play tennis a couple of times a week and have season ski passes, and use them a lot.

One other thought just popped into my head, next time you are at a wedding, watch all the OLD geezers dancing to recent edgy stuff that they probably have never heard before. I think that says a lot.

Go for it, if it makes you happy then why not? Hip hop's been around for over 30 years now, so there's plenty of people who loved it at the start who'll be your age or older now.
Life's too short to care what other people think :)

Not at all! Actually you are doing the right thing. Nowadays, people at 50s is not regarded an older person. Many of them are still young mind and bodily. They can do well in variety of jobs . And they need to be active and cheerful and physical fit in order to learn more and do more to make their lives valuable. You should expect to live until 100. Go ahead for what you like and enjoy your life.

I think it is awesome!!! Look at some of the women pioneers of music that are mature and still rockin.......Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar....the list goes on. It's great to have an open mind to all types of music regardless of your age.
I don't think that you are unusual in any way, on the contrary you just haven't limited your musical choices which is a great thing! Enjoy Granny!!! :)

i think that its very cool that you are modern and are into the "in" music! If you like what you like, why not? Vh1 is for the older crowd, but they also play hip hip like Timbaland, Kanye West, Keisha Cole, Diddy. I think when i get old im gonna like listen to Chris Brown, so yeah thats coool!
