Cut aid, we shouldn't be sending them any aid. Its time these africans started helping themselves. When are they going to get some self respect and stop being the tramps of the world relying on handouts from more prosperous nations. Africa's corruption is what is holding it back, and that cant be fixed by throwing more money at a place. It will most likely just make it worse. How much of live aid ended up lining the pockets of some corrupt african president, the 80's was idealistic but very misinformed.

And the absurd religion that is demostrated here, do you really believe that would help a country to provide for its people, its 2007 - not 1507!!!

Yes without a doubt because this has got to be the most stupid act of religion ever.
Some of these Muslim countries are now going way over the top with their religion and,an event such as this does nothing to improve relations with Sudan after all, they asked for all sorts of aid including western help with schools and medical aid not to mention the millions we are contributing to help them get on their feet.
Everyone concerned in this spectacle has apologised and explained that this was not an intended offence and, even the child who named the bear has said it was him,not the teacher.
All this paranoia about religion needs to settle down, because time and, time again it has been the cause of many conflicts.
More importantly we "MUST" pull out from helping the Sudan until we get an apology, and if they harm the teacher in any way we should go in with all guns blazing.

Its a slippery slope. If we cut aid its going to affect the people of sudan on both sides, those that have said that the arrest is ridiculous, and those that have caused the outcry. Something should be done regardless. Its ridiculous that they are claiming that naming a teddy bear mohammed is blastphemous. They name their bloody children mohammed!!! I'm going ot sound very right wing here, but i am sick of the muslim community in general whetehr inside England or out, taking advantage of our level of effort in respecting their culture. The outcry at the mohammed cartoon, the claims of racism when one of the suicide bombers was on trial, the claim that we are oppressing them is completely absurd. The christian based countries (whether christian or atheist but living by christian ideals) are seriously having the piss taken out of them. Cutting aid may not be the answer, but economic sanctions regardless of what they do to her are definately a must. They have already gone too far in arresting her and accusing her of inciting racial hatred. I think there would be peace in this world if the muslim community learnt to coexist with other faiths. The basis of the recent public outcrys have been started by the muslim community being overly sensitive. The cartoon of mohammed? People characterise Jesus and god all the time, and not in the most favourable of lights either. We laugh it off, and respect the fact that not everybody believes what we believe. Our community lives in fear of persecution and accusations of racism, when I think that we are the most socially accepting community. I'm pretty certain yahoo will take this message down proving my point about the fear of persecution, though in doing so they will be breaching my freedom of expression because everything in this message is an opinion, which last time I checked, even I as a white male was entitled to under the Human Rights Act 1998.

Difficult one. I would disagree that they're inciting hatred - it is, after all, their law. I think it's an absurd one, but it's not by call :o)

Should they cut aid? I think I'm right in thinking (but could be wrong) that Sudan is one of the UK's biggest allies in the middle east part of the world, so doing so could be politically damaging. Instead, they should use reason with them to come to a better resolution.

Yes, the UK should stop aid to the sudan if the teacher is found guilty.
The question the UK government should ask itself is: If the sudanese get away with this, what are the chances of the same or someother muslim country jumping on the band wagaon?

According to the department for international development the UK tax payer has given 667 million dollars to the Sudan in five years how many schools could we have built or teachers could we have trained with this money. Grow some balls Gordon and stand up for your own people for a change.

Had that teacher been an Israeli citizen there would have been a greater effort to protect her from such Mad-men.I think that these countries that are using Religion to further their intentions in the free world should be taken over by force and administered jointly by the civilised nations.

I'm a brit living in the Middle-East and you have to know the law and abide by it, if you don't you can see what can happen. She was living and teaching there but did'nt know the laws, a lesson to everyone living abroad.
You can see by just looking at her that she is a right sweetie, i hope that everything works out well and that they bring straight back to the u.k., If not, all aid should be cut right away.

Why are we giving any other country aid, surely we should make sure we have no homeless children in the UK before our Government decide to give aid abroad?

I see the Lady has been to Court today, and now they are sending her to Trial. The outcome could be horrific, and its time this Government demanded her release and bring her home. If she goes to trial they will bey for the lot, and I doubt if she will have a chance to plead anything.
