The insert key allows you to overtype something. To put letters in over other letters without creating a space or changing the sentence. For example: For Saal Today.
You could go to the a in Saal and hit insert and type le to correct. Otherwise, you would have to go to the A in Sale and type in le and then delete the al. Plus it would push today forward.

Actually the INSERT key is pushed in default....so if you want to disable it you have to push it again, so then when you type withing the text it would be "overwritten" instead of adding words..

It will insert a character as you type. If you press it again it will overwrite what you have typed - try it.
