I'm 23 - I was charged with forgery at 18 & grand theft at 21. I am still on probation due to my second charge but plan on having my record expunged when my probation is complete. I realize the mistakes I made & have grown a lot in the last two years.

At 19 - I went to tech. school for half of a semester but decided to withdraw from the program I was in. A few years have passed & I am serious about going to school & furthering my education. The only thing that's holding me back is my felony record & that I'm having a hard time deciding what to major in.

I'm planning on going to a University & I'm fully supported by family in my actions to do so. But I'm unsure what I should go for because of my criminal record. Here are some things that I'm interested in but I'm not sure as a felon I'll be able to succeed:

1. Computer Science
2. Psychology
3. Veterinary Medicine
3. RN or PA
4. Music

I've done a lot of research on the net...but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

In any of these career fields require personnel with backgrounds that have nothing worse that minor traffic violations. To work in any of these careers you would be asked to submit to a background check. Without having your record expunged you are looking at working in a menial job for little pay.

RN or PA but your record may screw you there. I would go with Computer Science, but you'll be competing against the entire world (lot of hours and a lot of competition). I would say Psychology if you can pull it off. You basically have to make it the Dr. level to make any cash unless you want to be a social worker. Music is more of a passion than a job in most cases. Yeah, do Psych...good luck & stay clean.

There is nothing to worry. You have been absolved of a bigger charge of Forgery !!. Theft at an an young age does not constitute a major offence .Please go ahead with your studies and your future is bright !!

Please take up either Computer Science or Veterinary Medicine courses !!

1, 3 and 5 would work fine, but I don't know what 4 is. I recommend going for music if you're any good at it.

If your record can be expunged, you might be OK in any of these. If not, I'd go for computer science or music.
