Sometimes I feel the same. There sitting in front of you a stack of cards that say something trite and over-used. How could you make them more personal and unique??
What I usually do is state the obvious....example:
"...I saw this card and thought it'd be great to send those I love. Once I got to the writing part I drew a blank! I never know what to put in these, except I love YOU!!!"
Usually by that time your mind will start jogging and then you can put a "remember when", or a "don't let the cat drink the Christmas Tree water!!". Just say what's on your mind! If the people you plan on sending them to know you at all, they'll know what you mean. And clearly you mean well if you're posting this on Yahoo Answers!
Good Luck!! :)

Your relationship with the recipient should determine how you sign your Christmas cards. If you love the person, sign it Love. If the love is romantic use: Love always or With all my love. If you only like the person use casual phrases such as Warm regards or Sincerely or more warmly: With Love from. If you're friendly and close to the person you could you could use: Love and Hugs or Love and Kisses. If you don't like the person just say: From, although don't know why you'd send a card to someone you don't like.
And by the way - never use the word Xmas - It is thoughtless and insensitive. It is tantamount to crossing Christ out of Christmas and is grossly insulting to Christians and those respectful of Christianity. The entire point of Christmas is Christ - a celebration of the birth of Christ and the principles of Christianity. It is obscene for you to participate in the spirit of generosity and love provided by Christmas and then to insult the very reason for Christmas. If this is contrary to your belief system, fine; then use an alternative, such as Festive or Holiday season, circumnavigating your decision to be insulting. Excluding any religious considerations using the word Xmas is sloppy and lazy and not worthy of thoughtful communication.

You already have alot of great responses.
To:
Wanted to wish you a Groovy Christmas and Happy new Year in 2008. Then tell the person why they are special to you or a great memory you had this year with them.
ex #1: had so much fun when we went skiing let's make sure we do that again in 2008.
ex #2: You were really there for me when you came and babysit on a whims notice so I could go shopping for Christmas. Your always a person I can count on.
ex#3: Thanks so much for inviting me to your annual party we always have so much fun when you throw these parties
ex#4: I know we keep saying we will get together for coffee but lets make a plan for this after all the hustle and bustle of the season. (if you say this make sure you follow through with it)
ex) Thanks so much for your help with getting my deadline met. Your help meant so much to me.
Love (your name) - if relative/Close friend
your name - not close friend/buisness associate
You could also add in a package of tea for those chilly cold winter nights or a favorite christmas recipe you have. Just photocopy it and stick in the card. That will make it memberable. Perhaps a photo of your family. I love getting the photo cards.
Also make sure when you go to the post office you use ask to purchase the Christmas stamps. It adds a little bit of the season to your card.
One other thing. if you don't know the person's religion then say Season's Greetings. Some people don't celebrate Christmas but the Season. Your always safe not to offend people with that one.

If they are blank insides.. maybe some simple Christmas greetings like:
*Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
*Hope your Christmas brings you many warm wishes!
(and similar things to that)
with "To" and "From" of course, and a little message wishing them the best for the new year and add something personal like what you like about them, what you enjoyed this year with them.
It's nice to be creative, because most cards only just say To whoever and From whoever and most likely to be skimmed. But if you add something meaningful - its a gift to remember even though it is just a piece of stationery.
Simple rhyme poems are entertaining! You don't even have to be talented... I find that even the simplest rhymes that make some kind of sense are amusing to read. Or if you are arty, a little picture with a caption/speechbubbles.
Anyways, just go with your instinct - I'm sure your card receiver will enjoy the messages you have written~!

Keep it simple!! Love, (your name) or for acquaintances who are not family try Fondly, (your name) or Kind Regards, (your name) or if nothing seems quite right, just your name will do!
