I am going by myself for 3 days in december, but i do have some friends out there. So far, im planning on going to the Celtics game and the Patriots game. I will be staying at the Park Plaza downtown, and I was wondering what are some of the cooler things the city has to offer? Besides Newburry St., Fenway, or Beacon Hill. Im 23, into sports and history, so can you guys please help me out? direct me a lil bit? I would rather do some local things than touristy things, thanks guys!

I'm a Chicago architect and I love Boston. Since you like history may I suggest some architectural and historical sites.

Overall Boston is a fascinating of historical and modern architecture. Where these clash in many cities they overall work well together here. One favorite example is Copley Square with Rochardson's Romanesque Trinity Cathedral and IM Pei's nearby John Hancock Tower visually and elegantly cutting into the plaza vista like a 70-story glass knife.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace on the waterfront is a nice buzz of shops and restaurants among historic architecture. I personally like nearby Boston City Hall though I know some out there will frown on this.

Harvard and MIT have great scenery and goings on. And no trip there is complete without wandering Beacon Hill and seeing Old North Church. Tourusty, yes but worth it, and not really that crowded.

Regardless of your religion the Christian Science Complex is a fascinating place, also by IM Pei. And again a great blend of a traditional looking church nestled in a modern complex.

Sports, let's face it -- what Boston area team ISN'T doing well right now. From what little I know 'bout sports.

Trying to read a map will intimadate you as the downtown is a 'hub' of medieval like streets, but oh so beautiful. As for directions you'll get used to the visual cues and landmarks. Then the map will make more sense.

Have a great trip!

Agree about the North End, I love to just hang out there in the evening.

The freedom trail tour offers a pub version of the freedom trail tour - drink where your forefathers did. I think the URL is www.freedomtrail.org?

You can try and take the Fenway park tour, after all it is America's most beloved ball park - just ask Dr. Charles. Not sure they do the tour year round. Go to the Souvenir store across from Fenway to get the tour. If they don't, you can always buy your Red Sox world championship gear and then go party on Landsdown Street.

Blue Man group - it all started here baby.

Pops Holiday show.

Skate on the frog pond. Hunt rats on the common.

lots of your questions require actual learn, so pass on your interior of reach library or promptly touch the tourism boards in Boston and DC. right here on Y!A, you're probably to get extra critiques than actual learn. My take: first of all, i'm uncertain that Boston IS extra high priced than DC for motels. usual on a daily basis motel fee in DC for 2009 turn into $199 with seventy 3% occupancy, for Boston in 2009 it turn into $189.29 with seventy 3% occupancy. (Your links) Your assessment of the charges in holiday classes for the two cities isn't a real diploma as you do not comprehend the standards for inclusion in the classes. you should examine apples to apples. as nicely, you should evaluate enterprise vs entertainment motel costs (that could or won't be contemplated in the instruction manual books): i'm paying $198 consistent with evening for a Foggy backside DC motel in October Tues-Thurs, $ninety 9 consistent with evening Friday-Sunday. As for guidebooks -- back, first you should get all the way down to apples. On Amazon, you are able to limit your seek to booklet date, holiday and format. For holiday paperbacks printed in 2009, i'm getting 32 for DC, and 40 8 for Boston. the version is slightly extra the place to consume books, and a few rather dry books with Boston in the identify. i could decide that a tie while you're taking those out. yet in many situations, Boston has a plenty richer history that does DC, which failed to exist in the sought after conflict. loads of DC's history is that of the U. S., Boston has its very own. The attractions human beings pass to DC to work out are particularly cutting-edge.

I really enjoy the North End, where the "Italian" neighborhood is. Great restaurants and stuff. It's worth it to eat a meal.
