All you want to do is keep water from sitting in it and if in salt water then this doubles.most that I have seen are tilted to save space.

depends on what conditions you expect to encounter......95% of the time right-side up is fine, especially if there is a cover to keep spray/rain out and a self bailing plug to remove...as was said you can then keep all the usual gear inside....
if going offshore or into heavy weather with the possibility of solid breaking water across the deck upside down is the only acceptable way.

If you plan on using it for a lifeboat it should be upright so all you abandon ship gear is inside. There is also the need to remove engine, fuel, life vests etc if you stow it inverted. If its easy to launch and ready to go it will be used, if its a pain you will not use it.

Laying on it's side lets water in the exhaust and rusts the cycs>always stand up on rail> If laying down spark plugs facing up>>Flush if possible>Pickle before long term storage>
