Is it because she is English and white. Do non of the thousands of lives destroyed by Muslim Militia in Darfur matter because they are black and poor?

I am not saying dont help the teacher but put things in perspective. The teacher will live and has a future. Thousands will not as a direct result of cleansing by the Sudanese Government.

I get your point but I think the question should be why NOT cry over the thousands being killed.

Its simple human nature of giving a face to an issue.

Its sad but true that however tragic & ghastly the fact that thousands are being murdered in Dafur is, it doesn't affect us much... only because we don't know their individual stories. We don't know their names and we don't recognise their faces.

Its very like the way people were upset that Madeleine, one single little missing child, had touch the hearts of millions while thousand other faceless little ones go missing everyday. It was all due to the media coverage that she got thru' the efforts of her parents & well-wishers.

I say we use our time & resources to find out details about Dafur & other missing children & try to give them the same coverage thus putting this shameful scenario in its true & rightful perspective.

it's easier for people to identify the problem when focused on an individual. it is difficult for most to identify or get a grip of a problem involving a faceless crowd or the masses as in what happens in Darfur or other far away countries.

If we cried for every innocent killed by every corrupt government, we would never get anything done. We are pissed off about Gillian whats-her-name because she is one of our own who was out there trying to make Sudan a better place thru education and what does she get in return? Nailed to a stake and whipped half to death probably. And for what. A bloody teddybear

It is because she went over to offer a service, educate children, she was doing a good thing, I certainly wouldn't use my qualification (nursing) in those conditions. I like comfort and alcohol too much lol.
Seriously I feel angry that they have turned on her like this and I hope it put's people off going to help.
